It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of our former player and club member Paul Hughes on Tuesday 24th April 2012.
Paul, known as ‘Buzzer’ to his friends, played for Eglish for many years from underage through to Senior level and also represented Tyrone at Minor and Under 21 level. Paul had a lot of success as a player and won Minor Championship medals in 1986 and 1987. Paul was the captain of that successful 1986 Minor side. At senior level Paul won an Intermediate Championship medal in 1997.
Success also followed Paul at county level with Tyrone as he collected an Ulster Championship winners medal in 1990 and they progressed to an All Ireland final, eventually losing out to Kerry.
Once his playing days had finished Paul went into management and had overseen successful stints at both Killeshil and Scotstown, and was due to take charge at Galbally for the current 2012 season until his recent illness.
All at St. Patrick’s Eglish G.A.C. and Camogie Clubs extend their deepest sympathy to the Hughes family (Eglish and Galbally) at this difficult time. Paul was a very popular character among all his friends and will be sadly missed by all within our club.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
If you would like to leave a message these will all be collated and passed onto the family.

What a loss! A great friend and parishioner whom I had the honour to witness marrying Noleen on 13 July 2002 in Galbally! Remembering him and all of those who have lost such a good husband, dad, Gael and friend at this time in my prayers, especially Mass.
April 28th, 2012 at 12:32 amThe small village of Eglish is silent, a stunned community sheds a tear, for a man that we all knew so well, and held in our hearts so dear. A role model, a gentleman, a team mate and a friend, how all this could happen, its so hard to comprehend…… God only calls the best early, and this is not the end, Paul watch over your dear family, until we meet again old friend.
April 28th, 2012 at 1:18 amBuzzer was one of the most popular men I ever met. No matter who you were buzzer would always have made time for you. He was a Eglish man through and through and unfortunately will never manage Eglish because no doubt he would have done a great job.buzzer was a gentleman and I’m proud to have played with him and known him as a friend. Thanks buzzer for the memories and you will always be remembered. My prayers and thoughts are with buzzers family at this very difficult time

April 28th, 2012 at 9:02 amI will never forget the impact you had on our club and players, your honesty with us and trust in us definitely turned our careers in the right direction. Still have the letter you wrote to me before the 09 champ semi final, will treasure it for the rest of my days, it summed you up as a coach and more importantly as a person. I’ve lost a friend but you are now with plenty of friends, a true gael and never to be forgotten!! RIP Buzzer

April 28th, 2012 at 12:12 pm‘Buzzer’ was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Always had a smile on his face and what set him aside from others was the welcome he gave to younger players. I’ll always remember the way he treated us younger members of the senior squad when he was in the later stages of his career. Thoughts and prayers are with his young family. RIP a true Gael.

April 28th, 2012 at 4:56 pmit’s with great sadness I ( like everyone else) have to write this message
Paul was a great friend to me although we had drifted apart in recent years
We both attended St pats Dungannon at remained friends since then. Paul travelled
With me quite allot to the USA while I was competing in Motoracing
And he actually got me to the USA for the very first time to play for St Brendans in chicago the day I left was the 12th of July 1993 and it was Paul
Who took me to the airport and a few days later he joined me in the windy city there are lots of stories I could tell, we had great criac in the states
Over the years. I informed a friend of mine( Paul knew also) in Tennessee this week
of Paul’s passing and his words were “Paul was a real comedian” and he was I think we all can agree on that. When I was told he was not well I went to see him in the Royal even though he was visibly weak and very tired he greeted me with ” young Dynes it’s great to see you” I spent an hour with him catching up on old times and of course a few laughs unfortunately that’s the last time I talked to him as he was then moved to London a few days later, I thought he was going to make it but unfortunately it was not meant to be. To Noleen, Sean, Matthew and Amy, his mother and Ambrose
And the kelly family We offer of sincere condolences it’s not right for this to happen,
God bless and watch over you all..
Kieran, Dymphna, Sara, Matthew and Kiera
April 28th, 2012 at 5:20 pmYou were running the roads 23 years ago when the Pomeroy girls first met you. And ever since you would turn up in all parts of Ireland with a crew in tow and a good nights craic guaranteed. You knew the country and the country knew you. As we all grew up and settled down you gave us a great day out and your running days were gladly replaced by wife and babies. Your ready smile and “up to no good” glint (that made me run for cover) will be missed by all. To Noeleen, Sean, Matthew and Amy please know that we are all thinking of you and praying for you. Buzzers spirit will live for a long time to come.
April 28th, 2012 at 10:32 pmJust to let you know that Club Colmcille extends sympathy to your club community on the deeply sad passing of Buzzer.

April 29th, 2012 at 3:54 pmWhat a great fella and what a send off today at Galbally Chapel. We truly gathered to send off our love and celebrate the life and times of our fellow Gael Paul Hughes. May he rest in peace and may Noeleen and family continue to find the strength to live each day to the full as we all know that Buzzer did. Louise
Not much to add to the glowing tributes all ready posted. His popularity was plain to be seen today in Galbally. Friends came from all over to say farewell to a gentleman who made a room a little brighter when he entered. Joe C
