Camogie Club Notes

Club Championship Success

Friday night’s winning result for the U14’s puts Eglish Camogie Club in both a historic and proud position. Every team in every age group, from Post primary right through to Senior has won their respective county championship. This momentous achievement is inevitably the result of huge efforts this year from both players, parents’, mentors and the committee and we wish to thank everyone that was involved.

Senior

On Sunday past, the seniors began their Ulster championship campaign against Armagh Champions Tullysaran. Eglish used the strong breeze to their favor in the first half and took the lead early on, pointing with ease from all areas of the field and went in at the half way mark with a comfortable lead. Tullysaran came out determined in the second half and their efforts were rewarded when they found the net just after five minutes. However Eglish continued to put the pressure on up front and picked away at scores resulting in an end score line of 2-16 to 1-5.

This Saturday, 5th October, Eglish play the second round of the Ulster club championship against Down champions Liatroim. A win here will secure their place in the Ulster Final. The game is in Liatroim at 5.15pm. Please make the effort to travel and support the girls.

U14

Congratulations to the U14s who put on a terrific performance on Friday evening to win the championship. Having already been beaten twice this year by Dungannon, the Eglish girls were hungry for success. Despite this, the game got off to the worst possible start when Dungannon found the net in the first minute of the game and the large crowd of supporters feared that this would be the start of a very one sided affair. But the Eglish girls raised their game and battled hard and soon full forward Catherine Muldoon was on target with a selection of terrific scores. Leanne Donnelly and Megan Vincent worked tirelessly in midfield, dominating under the Dungannon puck out and feeding ball continuously into the forwards. Dungannon threatened goal again just before the end of the first half but excellent play between goalie Francine Farley and full back Catherine Donnelly cleared any danger leaving Eglish ahead as the whistle was blown for half time. In the second half, Eglish continued to dominate with the half forward line of Amy Barrett, Laura Mason and Casey Gallagher causing the Dungannon defense huge problems. In the last five minutes Dungannon began to counter attack, opening up the Eglish backline and scoring three successive goals, but it was too late as the final whistle went and Eglish won 5-06 to 4-0. A delighted captain, Megan Vincent was presented with the championship cup and Leanne Donnelly was deservedly awarded player of the match. Many thanks to the large number of supporters who turned out to support the girls.
