U16s
The U16s closed the football season in fine fashion at the weekend by claiming the Grade 2 Championship defeating Donaghmore in the replay on a scoreline of 1-14 to 0-12. In what was another exciting contest, in which Eglish were never behind, there was little between the teams in the first half, until Dara McKenna struck for goal a few minutes before half time to go in at the break 1-10 to 0-9. Eglish continued their good form after the break, and with ten minutes to go they were 1-13 to 0-11 up, but were also reduced to 13 men, losing one player to a second yellow and another to a harsh red. They showed great heart and composure in the last ten minutes and the result never looked in doubt. Well done to all the players and management on this fantastic achievement. It capped of a particularly good week for Christopher McNeill, who also won the Tyrone U16 Vocationals with St Patrick’s College Dungannon.
