Camogie Club Notes

Annual Presentation Night

Our annual presentation night to celebrate the success of 2014 took place on Friday evening in Quinn’s Corner.

Chairperson, Brenda Horsfield welcomed everyone there and began by thanking Jim and Barry, the outgoing senior management, for their dedication to the job in 2014, and wished Jim good luck in his new role. She then paid thanks to our main sponsor, Terry McCann Shop and Post Office for his generosity and support throughout the year and also to Michael McKee Airbags who sponsored a new set of underage jerseys in 2014.

The club referees were thanked along with all those who helped out and coached the underage, from the tiny tots right up to the U18s. David McKenna, committee member, then took this opportunity to speak briefly about youth development, encouraging   anyone with an interest to get involved, regardless of experience or not. He spoke of Eglish’s successful standing within the county but cautioned that this could not be taken for granted and that the club must continue to build.

This lead on to the youth presentations, with joint coach Leona Gallagher taking to the microphone. Leona complimented her team on their courteousness both on and off the field and spoke of a team packed full of talent and skill who therefore unsurprisingly won both the Post Primary League and Championship. Individual awards were as follows; Player of the Year – Regan Fay, Most Promising – Shannon Gildernew, Coaches Award – Morgan Horsfield.

On behalf of the U14 management, Claire Jordan gave a brief summary of the U14 year, paying particular mention to the Feile team who competed so well in the competition, going from strength to strength with every game, and of the experience the players gained playing against tough competition from the teams down South. Joint captains Casey Gallagher and Blaithin McVeigh collected the Championship cup. Feile captain Catherine Muldoon collected the Tyrone Feilie Cup along with Player of the Year Award. Michelle Muldoon received the League shield along with the Most Promising Award and Francine Farley received the Coaches Award.

Joint manager Kelley Fay commended the U16s on a great year, and in particular, the momentous performance the whole team put on in the championship final. Player of the Year went to Una Barrett, Most Promising was awarded to Laura Mason and Coaches Award was received by Niamh Byrne.

Frankie Bigley spoke on behalf of minor manager Shauna Jordan. Again she reiterated the other coaches when commenting on how mannerly and polite the bunch of girls were to work with and also paid particular mention to the younger girls on the panel who came on board to help fulfill fixtures, as minor games often fall at a time when the more senior girls are attending Gaeltach. Individual awards, Leanne Donnelly – Player of the Year, Meabh McGleenan – Most Promising, Emma Muldoon – Coaches Award.

The senior players received their league medals and individual presentation were made to Ciara Donnelly, acknowledging her Purcell University All Star; Maria Jordan, acknowledging her Team Talk All Star and Julie Lagan for her numerous accolades this year, including County Player of the Decade!

Outgoing senior management, Jim and Barry, were presented with a keepsake and flowers were given to their wives, Debbie and Kyna, as a token of the clubs thanks. Frances Barrett was also given flowers to thank her for her medical duties throughout the year.

The members of the Tyrone County panel were presented with their Ulster Championship medals and the panel of 10 that represented the club and won the Killmacud 7s were given a keepsake of a framed team photo from the day along with their All Ireland medals.

Jim McCormack then spoke and thanked the club for the past 5 years and said that, “goodbyes are not easy”, but that a part of him would always be with Eglish and that he would be keen to come back and help the youth in the years to come. He encouraged the younger girls to keep playing the game and reminded them of how terrific a game it is and something you can carry with you and play all over the world. He thanked the committee for all their help and spoke of the friendships he had made in Eglish. Finally he repeated his classic mantra, that it’s only a game, a sport, we all love it but there’s more important things happening in the world. And when you’re playing and you remember that, you enjoy it far better!

Jim presented Ciara Donnelly with the much deserved Senior Player of the Year Award as voted for by the players and Ursula presented Brenda Horsfield with the Club Person of the Year Award.
