Camogie Club Notes

Ulster Club Champions!

After a long 24 year wait, the seniors finally sealed the deal with an emphatic win over Glen in the Loop on Sunday evening!

With the entire province experiencing terrible weather conditions the previous 48 hours, the camogs were blessed to find the Loop pitch in such great condition making for a much easier playing environment.

Under lights from the throw in, Eglish got off to a great start, Ciara Donnelly pointing in the first 30 seconds, closely followed by another point from Aisling Jordan. Glen replied by converting a free but the Eglish girls were relentless with Ciara D, Kelley Fay, Maria Jordan and Shauna Jordan all adding more points to the board. After 17 minutes, Susan Conlon landed Eglish’s first goal and Leanne Donnelly deservedly got her first point of the game. Just before half time, Ciara Donnelly finished strongly to leave Eglish 2-9 to Glen 0-4 going into the half.

Eglish continued to extend their lead in the second half with Ciara Donnelly getting three points in a row! It looked like the Glen side might see a glimmer of hope when they added a goal and a point of their own but it was not to be when Niamh McNulty was introduced and found the net almost instantly! Leanne Donnelly added two more goals along with a string of points from the Eglish girls who were deserved winners at the final whistle.

Full time score, Eglish 5-14, Glen 2-05.

Eglish scorers; C Donnelly 1-08, L Donnelly 2-01, S Conlon 1-0, N McNulty 1-0, M Jordan 0-2, S Jordan 0-1, A Jordan 0-1, K Fay 0-1

Ecstatic captain, Ciara Donnelly was presented the cup by Kathleen Woods from Ulster Council and Leanne Donnelly, the youngest player on the Eglish side, was deservedly awarded player of the match!

The club would like to thank all those who travelled to the Loop and endured very cold conditions whilst cheering on the seniors! To lift the cup in front of such large support was very special!

The celebrations continued in the Ryandale in the Moy and the club would like to thank senior sponsor Terry McCann who contributed towards the delicious meal the seniors had. The girls moved on to the Auction Rooms were they partied hard to the “wee” hours of the morning – apparently some are still recovering!

The Club would like to congratulate the entire senior panel and management of Martin Curry, along with his sons Nathan and Ordhan, and Leona Gallagher. After having been defeated in the past three Ulster finals, it took great resilience and determination to come back again this year, but the hard work has finally paid off and the club is so proud of each and every member of this victorious team.
