Camogie Club Notes

Senior

Last Wednesday, Eglish got their Tyrone League campaign off to a strong start with a good win against Derrylaughan. The first half was slow to start with Eglish struggling to convert their chances but they picked away and ran out easy winners at the final whistle, final score, 2-14; 0-02.

All Ireland Feile Weekend

Eglish was buzzing all last weekend as Feile descended on the parish! Eglish played hosts to Camross Camogs from Co. Laois. Friday afternoon got off to a blistering pace with a mouthwatering tie between Keady and Eglish where the Eglish girls’ skill and talent prevailed and they got their first win of the weekend! Next up was Cellbridge from Co. Kildare, another excellent match that went down to the wire, unfortunately Eglish just narrowly missing out!

Saturday morning saw Eglish play the Camross girls they were hosting. After seeing glimpses of Camross in action on the Friday afternoon, it didn’t come as a big surprise that they had a convincing win over Eglish as they were an extremely talented side.

This then left Eglish in the quarter final of the Shield competition were they took on St Bridgids in Eglish on Saturday afternoon and had a good win, 3-04 ; 0-02 allowing them to advance to the semifinal in Lavey on Sunday.

For anyone that headed to Lavey to support the Feile team on Sunday, they were rewarded with an excellent and unbelievably exciting game against Glenullin! As a result of a draw at full time, the game then went into extra time where the teams could still not be separated which lead to a “free taking shootout”, and again, another draw! Sudden death then was the last remaining option where our Eglish girls unfortunately narrowly lost out. As expected the girls were very disappointed but were reminded of how proud they had made the club over the weekend in the way that they played and also how superbly they had represented the club.

The Club would like to commend the entire Feile team for the way they conducted themselves on and off the field, a truly talented bunch of girls! Also special mention the coaches Leona Gallagher and Barry Fay who have mentored these girls all year and brought their skills on enormously.

Finally another word of thanks to all those parents and club members, who hosted, cooked, cleaned and facilitated with the whole weekend. Feile is a very special weekend for our U14 players but it is only possible as a result of a lot of hard work and preparation and for those who gave of their time to make it possible, we are very thankful – you all know who you are!

U16 Championship

The U16 Championship semifinal takes place this Wednesday night against neighbours and rivals Dungannon. This is a home venue for the Eglish girls and we would encourage everyone to come and support the girls. Throw in at 7.30pm, Pairc Cormac. Good Luck to the team and management!

Post Primary Championship

The final of the post primary championship will take place next Monday 29th June in Killyman at 7pm against Edendork. These teams battled it out in the league final and no doubt another tense match will be on the cards. Please come and support the post primary girls in their quest for the double!
