Following on from a very successful Riverbank Dance Festival in 2013, Eglish GAC are now hosting the Cormac 10k Race & Fun Run Day on Saturday 17th May 2014. This event will act as the opening feature of Eglish GAC’s 2014 Riverbank Dance Festival.
This Cormac 10k Race & Fun Run will follow the same format as previous successful events, in which over 1,000 people have participated over the last four years. The event starts and finishes in Eglish village, Co Tyrone, with registration on the day commencing at 12 noon and both races starting at 1pm.
Entry for the 10k Race or the Fun-Run is £10. All participants get a free goody bag, while there will be cash prizes for the Male and Female winners of the 10k Race. The Fun Run will take place alongside the main event, this being for the youth or for casual walkers and being over a 3 km stretch.
The race will pass two landmarks, which are particular poignant in the memory of Cormac McAnallen – Páirc Chormaic, which was opened by Eglish GAC in 2012 and Cormac’s home, where he lived with his parents in the Brantry.
Speaking today, race organiser Ruairi Martin said he was confident the event would continue to attract widespread support throughout the community. Furthermore, it is believed that the 10k Race also represents an excellent opportunity for the more competitive runner in terms of race times or even achieving a 10k Personal Best.
