EGLISH ST. PATRICK’S CAMOGIE CLUB NOTES
Underage Presentation Night
The club’s underage presentation took place last Friday night in the Crannon Inn. Proceeding’s got underway with Chairperson Ciara Kerr welcoming everyone to the presentation. Ciara invited Leona Gallagher recently appointed County Development Officer and the club’s development officer to speak about the success of the club’s underage teams. Leona began by thanking all the coaches involved with the teams for their continued hard work and commitment. The following coaches were recognised for their hard work throughout 2011: Post Primary, Edel Barrett and Lucy Mason; Under 14, Clare Jordan and Annette Jordan; Under 16/Minor, Kelley Fay and Frances Bigley.
Leona spoke about the continued hard work and the need to continue to develop Camogie at underage level. The club continues to develop and competed in every underage championship final in 2011, winning the Under 16 championship. Leona also spoke about the recent introduction of the Gaelic Start programme for Under 6’s and 8’s in the Sports Hall on Monday nights. The large crowds of children and parents over the past four weeks have been a clear indicator of the huge success it has been.
Each of the underage coaches received a small presentation from club secretary Edel Rafferty on behalf of the club for their work throughout the past season.
The clubs Senior Manager Jim McCormick was invited to make the underage individual awards; Lucy Mason began with the Post Primary team’s Player of the Year Leanne Donnelly, Most Promising Catherine Muldoon and Coaches Award Aimee Barrett.
Under 14 awards were presented by Claire Jordan Player of Year Cailin Murtagh, Most Promising Caoimhe Goodfellow, and Coaches Award Catherine Donnelly.
The Under 16 team was very successful after winning the County Championship; the cup was presented to joint captains Meabh McGleenan and Niamh McNulty. Kelley Fay presented the following awards Most Promising Player Aoife McMullan, Player of the Year Niamh McVeigh and Coaches Award Megan Fox. The underage 16 team was presented with their championship medals. Niamh McNulty received a special mention for her achievement of receiving Player of the Match in the Under 16 and Minor championship finals.
Well done to all of the club’s players who have been representing their schools in the recent Post Primary College’s competition. A number of the Eglish girls were playing for St Catherine’s College Armagh on Saturday morning in the Ulster College’s Junior final. St Catherine’s Armagh became the first school to collect the Junior Medallion Shield title twice when their strong second half performance saw off 2009 champions St Paul’s Kilrea at Moortown. St Catherine’s continue now into an All Ireland semi-final. Also St Patrick’s Dungannon had reached the final of the Fr Davies Cup but were defeated by St Patrick’s Keady. Well done to Aisling Jordan, Megan Fox, Aine McElroy, Bronagh McMullan and Aine McGready who were part of the Academy team.
The club extends good wishes to post primary coach Lucy Mason and Corey Murtagh as they head down under. Lucy has played a leading role in the club as a player and more recently as a coach, bon voyage to them both.
