Cormac McAnallens from Australia to play in Dublin

With the 2012 season about to get into full swing – Dublin side Ballymun Kickhums have chosen international opposition to get their season kick started.

Cormac McAnallens GAC select team will play Ballymun Kickhums in a charity challenge game on Saturday 28th Jan 2012 at 3.30pm, in Ballymun, Dublin.  There will also be special guest appearances by Mattie Forde (Wexford) and James Glancy (Leitrim).  Donal McAnallen, brother of the late Cormac will also take the field.  While the famous Sam Maguire trophy will be on show.

There will also be a collection in aid of The Cormac Trust where funds raised will be presented to Donal after the game.  The Sydney club would like to thank the McAnallen family for their continued support and encouragement!

Cormac McAnallen’s GAC was founded in January 2005.   As the name suggests the club was formed in memory of the late Eglish and Tyrone senior football captain.  At only 24 years of age Cormac was elected captain of the Tyrone senior team, the team had just won the Sam Maguire Cup in 2003 for the first time.

His tragic death stunned the GAA world.  The cause of death was a rare heart defect.  Cormac’s family have committed a great deal of work towards research into this condition and raising awareness and funds for the installation of defibrillators in GAA and other sports clubs throughout Ireland.  In 2008 the Sydney Club donated a defibrillator to the NSW GAA, to safeguard the hundreds of Gaels who play GAA in the harbour city.

Refreshments will take place after the game in Copper Face Jacks in Dublin City at 7pm.  The McAnallens Irish Sub Committee would like to thank Coppers for their support.   The event will also mark the official launch of the clubs gear now being available to buy in Ireland.  Taste Ireland who sponsor the Club’s supporters jersey, have kindly sponsored the jerseys for the game.  You can buy the new 2012 McAnallen supporters jersey direct from O’Neills.com

The Sydney based club aim to make this event an annual occasion – whilst changing the opposition each year.  For those planning to travel to Australia and interested in playing Camogie, Ladies & Mens Football or Hurling you can visit the club’s website – www.cormacmcanallensgac.com or follow them on Facebook.
