PJ Mc Donald headlines night of traditional music on Saturday 26th May

PJ McDonald the multi-talented musician from Donaghmore will grace the stage in the Sports hall on Saturday 26th May along with some of our own local musical talent as part of the build up to the opening of Páric Chormaic. This events begins at 9pm.

Steeped in traditional Irish music PJ has gone on to establish a reputation as one of Ireland’s finest tin whistle players renowned for his dexterity and understanding of the instrument. These days his outstanding vocal and guitar skills are as much in demand as his tin whistling expertise.


PJ has worked with many top names in the Irish music world including Arty McGlynn, Mairtin
O’Connor, Cathal Hayden and Seamie O’Dowd to name but a few. He was a member of the White
Hare Band, The Bad Articles and more recently the Bettys. His music has graced and sold out
venues the length and breadth of Ireland as well as having been recorded for the renowned Irish
playwright Marie Jones. At last PJ has recorded the debut album fans have been requesting for so
long.

“The Long Road Home” was a personal journey for PJ, inspired by influences, memories and
reflections from his past.

The album was recorded in Rhubarb Studios, Belfast, by Cormac O’Kane and features guest vocals
and musical contributions from some of Ireland’s finest musicians including Gerdy Thompson
(guitar); John Joe Kelly (bodhran); Brid Harper (fiddle) to name but a few. This wonderful debut
album will appeal to a wide audience and having already sold out 2 launch gigs at the Bardic Theatre
Donaghmore, will be showcased throughout Ireland and the UK later this year in a Spring/
Summer tour.
