Camogie Club Notes

Derry League

The Derry league resumed last Friday night after a short break for the summer holidays. Eglish were away to Bannagher with a stretched panel due to injuries and holidays. Quite a young team took to the pitch and battled hard against a physical Derry side. Unfortunately at the final whistle, the Eglish girls lost by one point. Nonetheless, this was a great opportunity for some of the younger girls to compete at this level.

This Friday, the girls make their way back over the Glenshane Pass again to play Dungiven. This will no doubt be another tough encounter and hopefully the girls can return to Eglish on Friday night with a win.

Training continues as normal on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6.15pm.

U18 League

The minors began their league campaign of 2014 last Thursday night in Pairc Cormac when they took on Edendork. Again due to girls on holidays, the panel was stretched and had to call up players from the younger age groups. Every girl on the pitch battled courageously but unfortunately Edendork were too strong on the night and won on a score line of 7-08 to 5-05.

U16 League

On Sunday evening, the U16s had their first league game, again against Edendork. After a number of the girls playing them at minor level a few days earlier, they knew that they were in for another tough game. Torrential downpours of rain during Sunday afternoon left playing conditions very difficult and ball handling slippery and unfortunately the Eglish girls weren’t able to convert their scoring chances as well as Edendork, narrowly losing 5:04 to 3:05.

Underage training

Tiny tots training resumes this Saturday 9th August from 10am – 11am. Players are advised to come dressed appropriately for the weather, wear shin pads and bring their own stick.
